Redeeming-qualities—those moments when they keep themselves from being considered completely terrible.
  • Paula came in before lunch to clean up another class’s mess, just because
  • Even if they are loud and disrespectful in class, all the loud and disrespectful kids make sure to yell “HEY MS BASYE!” throughout the day very loudly..and disrespectfully. :) 

Why I love SPED? I have the time and space to have these lightbulb moments with the kids:

  • Kevin will do all of his work very quickly if he can look at the floor with a magnifying glass for five to ten minutes. (I love Special Ed. for this reason)
  • Carter will do all of his work very quickly if he can listen to the Milkshake song and dance at the end
  • Dominik will do all of his work very quickly and QUIETLY (very important) if he can just do it with headphones
  • 8th graders will drive me nuts making sure they grasp a concept if you show them what happens if you don’t (bad quiz scores=unpacking grading process, for the first time=they got it=they are working harder)
